Dérive Berlin series delineate space with no particular reference to a known map whilst alluding to mapped space. Partly inspired by French philosopher Guy Debord’s theory of dérive, these folded works show movement through space, suggesting direction somewhere. Dérive literally translates as drift and drifting around Berlin (and Reykjavík) seemed an apt way to re-encounter places so loaded with memories, politics, and human horror.
